Stranger Things star David Harbour recently recalled a “cringey” promo from season 2 of the show. The promo involved Harbour and other cast members riding on a fan bus and stopping traffic. Although the show has participated in various other promos over the years, including commercials, partnerships, and themed experiences, this particular event didn’t turn out as fun as expected.

Stranger Things premiered on Netflix in 2016 and has since become one of the platform’s most successful shows, garnering impressive viewership numbers and critical acclaim. The ensemble cast includes David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink, among others.

During an interview with ComicBook.com before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Harbour described the cringey promo experience. For season 2, the cast was asked to ride on a TMZ-type bus, meet fans, stop traffic, and get off the bus with them. However, the experience quickly became uncomfortable for the cast members.

In addition to the cringey promo, Stranger Things has participated in various other promotional activities over the years. These include the New Coke commercial before season 3, where Steve Harrington (played by Joe Keery) visits a movie theater at Starcourt. The show has also partnered with Domino’s Pizza for an advertisement featuring Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin) picking up food, while Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) uses her powers to order.

The show has also collaborated with Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, offering viewers an immersive experience. For the release of Stranger Things season 4, the Empire State Building in New York City incorporated themed lights onto its side. The Stranger Things: The Experience also took place there before changing locations, providing fans with settings and scenarios reminiscent of the show.

With the show’s growing popularity, it will be intriguing to see how future promos for Stranger Things season 5 will be handled. However, with the current strikes causing production delays, it might be some time before any updates are available. Nevertheless, fans can speculate about what kind of promotion will be in store for the show’s final season.
