Netflix has released the highly anticipated trailer for its upcoming animated dark fantasy series, Castlevania: Nocturne. Set in 1792 during the French Revolution, the spinoff follows Richter Belmont, a descendant of legendary vampire hunters Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades. The teaser trailer reveals that Richter must confront a new wave of sinister vampires, including one with a grudge against his parents. Richter is joined on his mission by Maria Renard, a young vampire huntress and distant relative of the Belmont Clan.
The official synopsis of Castlevania: Nocturne describes the story as taking place in a remote part of western France, where the counter-revolutionary aristocracy has formed an alliance with a Vampire Messiah. This alliance threatens to crush the revolution and enslave humanity. Annette, a sorceress from the Caribbean, enlists Richter Belmont to lead the resistance against the vampires.
The show will be headed by Kevin Kolde and Clive Bradley, with Bradley also serving as the creator and head writer. Sam Deats and Adam Deats will share directing duties. The series will consist of eight 25-minute episodes and will be produced by Project 51 Productions and Powerhouse Animation for Netflix. The cast includes Edward Bluemel, Thuso Mbedu, Pixie Davies, Sharon D. Clarke, Richard Dormer, Iain Glen, Sydney James Harcourt, Elarica Johnson, Nastassja Kinski, Zahn McClarnon, Aaron Neil, Franka Potente, and Sophie Skelton.
Castlevania Classics – Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night
The new series draws inspiration from the video games Castlevania: Rondo of Blood and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Rondo of Blood focuses on the ongoing battle between the Belmont Clan vampire hunters and Dracula. Richter, the main character, becomes the beacon of hope and fights to bring peace back to the world. Symphony of the Night focuses on Richter’s disappearance and the awakening of Alucard, Dracula’s estranged son, who vows to stop his father’s evil ways.
The original Castlevania series gained global popularity through four successful seasons. It followed Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard as they defended Wallachia against the forces of Dracula. Castlevania: Nocturne will be released on Netflix on September 28, 2023.
