The popular musical slice-of-life anime Bocchi the Rock! is getting a film adaptation titled Theater Omnibus Bocchi the Rock! The film will be released in two parts across 2024, with the first part premiering in spring and the second part in summer. Anime publishing studio Aniplex shared a trailer for the first part on YouTube, showcasing the main character, Hitori “Bocchi” Goto, and her journey to form a band with her newfound friends through her viral guitar skills.

Bocchi the Rock! follows the story of middle school student Hitori/Bocchi, who struggles to make friends despite being an internet star for her electric guitar talents. When she is befriended by one of her classmates and recruited as the lead guitarist for her band, Bocchi embarks on a coming-of-age journey where she discovers her unique talents and forms connections with new friends.
The animation studio CloverWorks, known for their work on Bocchi the Rock!, announced earlier this year that they were planning a film adaptation of the series. The film would retell the story of the anime’s 12 episodes in a theatrical format. While the studio hinted at a 2024 release at the time, they did not provide a specific window. The recent announcement confirms the two-part release schedule, with the first part releasing in Spring 2024 and the second part in the summer of the same year.
Anime films have been highly successful in recent years, with franchises like Demon Slayer and One Piece achieving great success at the international box office.
