In Episode 5, titled “Premature Death,” the story picked up a year after the previous installment. It began with Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Shoko Ieiri testing Gojo’s improved skills. The focus then shifted to Geto as he gradually transformed into an antagonist. Disillusioned with his life as a sorcerer, his descent into villainy intensified after encountering the Special Grade Sorcerer Yuki Tsukumo, who inspired him to consider exterminating all non-sorcerers on the planet.

Geto put his plans into motion by going on a mission and killing 112 people, leading to his death sentence. He escaped from the school but was discovered by Shoko, who informed Gojo about his whereabouts. The two engaged in a heated discussion, with Geto outlining his vision for a new world and Gojo expressing his anger towards his friend. Following this, Gojo sought out Megumi Fushiguro, the son of the feared “Sorcerer Killer” Toji Fushiguro. The episode concluded with Gojo waking up in the main timeline of 2018, where he was greeted by a grown-up Megumi, Nobara Kugisaki, and the series protagonist, Yuji Itadori.

With Season 2 taking a short hiatus, the first five episodes explored the “Gojo’s Past” arc, delving into his high school days and his complex relationship with Suguru Geto. When the anime returns at the end of August, it will shift its focus back to Yuji and Sukuna. The upcoming arc, known as the “Shibuya Incident,” is considered one of the best in the series.
