The second season of I Am Groot has been released, and it is filled with fun Easter eggs and references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The show follows the adventures of Baby Groot when he was still a small sapling after the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The new season features a collection of short episodes, ranging from innocent misadventures to significant moments for the smallest Guardian of the Galaxy.
8 Hidden MCU Easter Eggs in I Am Groot Season 2
In the first episode, titled “Are You My Groot?”, Baby Groot explores the planet Terma and bonds with a baby bird. He feeds the bird some multicolored candies, which were also seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. These candies are often seen being eaten by Baby Groot throughout the MCU movies.
In the second episode, “Groot Noses Around,” Groot accidentally gains a prosthetic nose while searching for batteries. This nose was featured in a bin of prosthetics, including the fake leg Rocket used in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The bin also includes the fake eye that Groot brought to Yondu and Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
In Groot’s video game, which he plays in the second episode, there are references to Skrulls, Kree warriors, and even Howard the Duck. Howard the Duck has made multiple cameo appearances in the MCU since his first appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy.
In the third episode, “Groot’s Snow Day,” Baby Groot throws a hot chocolate mug in anger, and Rocket’s voice can be heard off-screen. Bradley Cooper reprised his role as the voice of Rocket for this cameo. This episode takes place on Falligar, the same world where Thor and Korg discover the slain deity Falligar in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Howard the Duck is referenced again in the fourth episode, “Groot’s Sweet Treat.” The passing ship in the episode resembles an ice cream truck and carries ice cream that looks like Howard. They also have ice cream resembling the Celestial Arishem from Eternals.
In the same episode, Groot is shown playing with a Nova Corps action figure. The Nova Corps officers made their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy, and it is amusing to see Groot playing with a figure representing them. Later in the episode, Groot crashes The Benatar’s pod into the ice cream ship, causing trouble with the Nova Corps.
The final episode, “Groot and the Great Prophecy,” is narrated by The Watcher himself, voiced by Jeffery Wright. The Watcher becomes exasperated with Baby Groot as he continuously distracts himself, eventually leading to the destruction of the important seed mentioned in the great prophecy. However, The Watcher realizes that Baby Groot himself is the true seed with the potential to save the universe.
Overall, I Am Groot season 2 is filled with hidden Easter eggs and MCU references for fans to enjoy. These references add an extra layer of fun and connection to the larger Marvel universe.
