Black Panther: Wakanda Forever pays tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman with a funeral scene for King T’Challa. However, the Avengers were notably absent from the scene. This absence can be addressed in the upcoming film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, where the team will have the opportunity to acknowledge and mourn their fallen friend.
Absence of Black Panther in “Wakanda Forever.”
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, T’Challa’s funeral scene is a heartfelt tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who played the iconic character. While there are understandable reasons for the Avengers not appearing in the scene, such as the event being a personal one for Wakandans and the scene serving as a tribute to Boseman, it is now time for the Avengers to acknowledge T’Challa’s legacy.
It is likely that Shuri, the current Black Panther, will join the Avengers in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to face off against Kang. While the scene with characters who knew T’Challa may not be extensive, it is important to honor the memory of the revered King, just as other fallen heroes have been honored.
Black Panther made a significant impact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks in large part to Chadwick Boseman’s charisma and chemistry with the rest of the cast. Boseman’s unexpected passing led director Ryan Coogler to include T’Challa’s funeral scene in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. However, the rest of the Marvel Universe has yet to find out or react on-screen to the loss of their friend and fellow hero. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty provides the best opportunity to address this.
While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever focused on its own characters and story, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be an Avengers-level team-up movie where the team can process and reflect on T’Challa’s passing. Shuri is expected to join the Avengers in this film, and although a scene with characters who knew T’Challa may not be significant several years after Wakanda Forever, it is important to recognize the legacy of King T’Challa.
The absence of the Avengers in T’Challa’s funeral scene can be explained both in-universe and out-of-universe. In the world of the movie, it may not have been necessary for the Wakandans to invite outsiders to a personal and culturally significant event. Additionally, the scene was meant as a tribute to Boseman, and featuring cameos from other Avengers may have been seen as distracting. However, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is the perfect opportunity to show that T’Challa’s legacy extends beyond Wakanda and that he meant a great deal to all of Earth’s mightiest heroes.
