The Marvels, the sequel to Captain Marvel, will introduce the Newest Superhero linked to Carol Danvers, named Monica Rambeau. Monica’s superhero name in the film will be Photon, which pays off a Captain Marvel Easter egg and serves as a tribute to her mother’s legacy. The Marvels will see Monica, Carol, and Kamala Khan team up to investigate a wormhole linked to the Kree, which causes them to swap powers with each other. They will also have to face a new threat in the form of a Kree warrior named Dar-Benn.
Newest Superhero Rewards a 4-Year-Old
Monica’s transformation into Photon was teased in Captain Marvel, where her mother, Maria Rambeau, had the callsign “Photon” in the United States Air Force Academy. Monica’s superhero name in the comics has also been Photon, among other names like Captain Marvel, Pulsar, and Spectrum. Naming her Photon in the MCU pays off the previous Easter egg and serves as a homage to her mother’s legacy. It allows Monica to carry on her mother’s name while also building her own as a superhero.
Photon is the most fitting superhero name for Monica, considering her powers in both the comics and the MCU. In the comics, Monica can transform herself into any form of energy within the electromagnetic spectrum. In the MCU, her powers have been shown to involve perceiving and absorbing various forms of energy, as well as phasing through objects. While Monica could have used other superhero names, choosing Photon honors her mother’s legacy and allows her to heal from the loss of her mother, as she didn’t get a chance to say goodbye due to the blip.
The Marvels will delve deeper into Monica’s powers and hopefully answer more questions about her character. The film is highly anticipated as it brings together three powerful female superheroes and expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is set to be released in the future, but the exact release date has not been announced.
