In a surprising crossover, the popular fast-food chain McDonald’s will play a significant role in the narrative of the upcoming second season of the hit Disney+ series Loki. Producer Kevin Wright explained in an interview with Fast Company that incorporating McDonald’s into the storyline would provide a unique perspective on the character Sylvie, who has been driven by anger and revenge for a long time. By exploring the joy of nostalgia, the arc will showcase Sylvie finding enjoyment in even the most ordinary things, such as working at McDonald’s.
McDonald’s in Loki Season 2
Sylvie, a character who has been on a revenge mission for decades or even centuries, has never thought about what comes next. However, when given a moment of opportunity, she is forced to consider her future. As Wright explained, “This woman who went on the run as a child, had been running through time, a fugitive of time, living in apocalypses, never being able to relax or slow down, the novelty of walking into a 1980s McDonald’s looked appealing.” This storyline aims to establish Sylvie’s desire for ordinary happiness and allow her to experience the novelty and joy of mundane things.
Wright also addressed concerns that the show’s depiction of McDonald’s may be seen as ironic or mocking. He assured that their intention was to tell an earnest story and create a love letter to nostalgia through Sylvie’s eyes. They wanted to showcase all the novelty and joy that can be found in places like McDonald’s, as seen from Sylvie’s perspective.
The second season of Loki is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 6, with new episodes airing every Friday. The show follows the adventures of the anti-hero Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. The official synopsis describes the upcoming season as focusing on the aftermath of the season one finale, where Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Alongside new and returning characters, Loki navigates an expansive and dangerous Multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and the truth of free will and glorious purpose.
The crossover between Loki and McDonald’s is certainly unexpected, but it promises to offer a fresh and intriguing perspective on Sylvie’s character. By incorporating McDonald’s into the storyline, the show aims to explore the simple joy of nostalgia and the desire for ordinary happiness. Fans will have to tune in to see how this storyline unfolds and how it contributes to the overall narrative of the second season of Loki.
