Tobin Bell Has Officially Signed On For Saw 10

Tobin Bell makes a triumphant comeback to the Saw franchise, playing a more prominent part in Saw 10, which is set to be released on Halloween 2023.

Tobin Bell will reprise his role as Jigsaw, the John Kramer character, when Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures begin production on Saw 10 later this month. Saw is a psychological horror franchise centered on the enigmatic Jigsaw Killer, who uses a series of brutal games in which people must inflict harm on themselves or others in order to survive. The first film, which debuted in 2004, startled both reviewers and fans with its intense bodily horror and uncompromising depiction of human despair. Saw was the feature directorial debut of horror superstar James Wan, who would go on to develop the Conjuring and Insidious series. The core franchise has seen six sequels, with 2010’s Saw: The Final Chapter concluding the series’ key events and two spin-off titles, Jigsaw and Spiral, focused on crimes inspired by the eponymous murderer.

Jigsaw from Saw is one of the most memorable horror movie antagonists, thanks in large part to Bell’s distinctively dark and contemplative acting. John Kramer is a retired civil engineer who is dying of an incurable brain tumor caused by his intestinal cancer. After attempting suicide, John Kramer finds a new respect for life and devises a perverted way for presenting others with the same shift in perspective. He devises complex games based on his victims’ perceived moral failings in order to teach them a lesson about taking life for granted. Jigsaw died at the end of Saw 3, although he reappeared in flashbacks in the future films.

Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures have officially confirmed that Bell will reprise his role as Jigsaw in the upcoming Saw film, which will be released next year. Bell will return despite not participating in the previous spin-off film Spiral, which is the only film in which the titular character does not appear in any capacity. Kevin Greutert, who edited Saw I through V and Jigsaw as well as directing Saw VI and Saw: The Final Chapter, will direct Saw 10. Mark Burg and Oren Koules, series producers, expressed pleasure at Bell’s comeback, signaling that his famous character will play an active role in the upcoming film.

What the Return of the Original Jigsaw Could Mean

John Kramer is an intriguing horror movie character because, despite his horrific deeds, he is motivated by a genuinely human and sad motivation. Jigsaw, according to his own warped reasoning, never commits murder, and his victims are to blame when their selfish or impetuous acts take their lives. Rather than the traditional killing rampage featured in slasher flicks, Jigsaw has a method to his madness that is frequently revealed only after a victim falls prey to his traps. His return to the franchise in a more active role is great news for long-time series fans who appreciate how important his character is to the film’s impact and meaning.

The mystery and gloom surrounding the Jigsaw murderer were what made the original Saw picture so effective, not the over-the-top gore, which was better characterized by following movies in the franchise. Fans who have been waiting for a true Saw sequel for nearly a decade should be excited by Bell’s spectacular return to the genre. Saw 10 will include a slew of new terrifying traps and games when it begins production later this month and is set to hit theaters on October 27, 2023.
