The popular anime series, The Irregular at Magic High School, is set to receive a sequel. The new series is expected to premiere next year, and a teaser trailer has been released to give fans a taste of what’s to come.

Three of the original voice cast members will be returning for the sequel. Saori Hayami, known for her role in Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, will reprise her role as Miyuki Shiba. Yūichi Nakamura, who stars in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, will once again voice Tatsuya Shiba. Kiyono Yasuno, from Ascendance of a Bookworm, will return as Minami Sakurai.

The animation studio 8-Bit, which took over from Madhouse for the second season of the original series, will produce the sequel. Jimmy Stone, director of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Scarlet Bond, will helm the project, and Taku Iwasaki, known for his work on Gurren Lagann the Movie – The Lights in the Sky Are Stars, will compose the music.

The Irregular at Magic High School is based on Tsutomu Satō’s light novel series, which was published from July 2011 to September 2020, spanning a total of 32 volumes. The story is set in an alternate reality where magic and technology coexist, and follows the journey of siblings Tatsuya and Miyuki as they attend a prestigious magic high school. While Miyuki is highly skilled and praised for her magical abilities, Tatsuya is often criticized and ostracized for his perceived ineptitude.

The light novel series has been incredibly successful, consistently ranking among the top-selling novels in Japan and selling over 22 million copies worldwide. It has also spawned a sequel series, titled The Irregular at Magic High School Magian Company, which began publication in October 2020.

The Irregular at Magic High School has received multiple anime adaptations, including the original series by Madhouse and the second season by 8-Bit. Two movies have also been released, with one telling an original story not seen in the light novels, and the other adapting the Reminiscence Arc from the books.
