Adult Swim unveiled the trailer for their upcoming anime series Ninja Kamui at San Diego Comic-Con 2023. The trailer provides a glimpse into the action-packed world of Ninja Kamui, following the protagonist Joe Higan as he seeks revenge on the enemies who destroyed his family. Director Sunghoo Park also shares insights into the series’ storyline and production process in the latter part of the video.
The story of Ninja Kamui revolves around Joe Higan, a former ninja who has escaped his violent past by seeking refuge in rural America with his family. However, his peaceful life is shattered when vengeful assassins from his former organization track him down. Left for dead, Joe emerges as Ninja Kamui, driven by a relentless desire for vengeance. Equipped with ancient skills facing modern weaponry, he embarks on a quest to avenge his loved ones, confronting trained assassins, combat cyborgs, and rival ninjas, all while taking on the very clan he once belonged to.
Ninja Kamui is expected to deliver both riveting action and intense drama. The character designs, created by Takeshi Okazaki, known for his work on Afro Samurai, add depth to the narrative. Produced by Sunghoo Park’s studio, E&H Production, in collaboration with Sola Entertainment, Ninja Kamui promises to be a visual spectacle. Fans can expect a captivating blend of compelling storytelling and adrenaline-pumping combat sequences.
Adult Swim’s Senior Vice President of On-Air department, Jason DeMarco, expressed enthusiasm for the series, stating that the combination of ancient ninja traditions with cutting-edge technology makes Ninja Kamui a unique and captivating experience for viewers.
In addition to Ninja Kamui, Adult Swim also showcased trailers for two other upcoming anime series at the Toonami On The Green event. Uzumaki, a horror anime based on Junji Ito’s manga, faced several delays before finally finding its way to Toonami. The series is set to debut on Toonami in October 2022 and is a joint collaboration between Production I.G. USA and Adult Swim.
Two new seasons of the FLCL anime are also on the horizon. FLCL: Grunge, directed by Hitoshi Takekiyo at MontBlanc Pictures, explores the lives of three teenagers who have entered the world of work after graduating. The series delves into the challenges and experiences of adulthood and maturity.
While the exact release date for Ninja Kamui remains undisclosed, Adult Swim confirms that the series will debut before the end of 2023. Fans can expect an action-packed and visually stunning anime experience that blends ancient traditions with modern technology.
