Discotek Media has announced plans to release a new home media version of Digimon the Movie, the 2000 Americanized anime film. This release will include not only the original versions of the film, but also a new English dub. The announcement was made at Otakon 2023, a convention held in Washington, DC.
The Digimon the Movies Collection 1 will include the 1991 short film Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!, Digimon Hurricane Touchdown / Transcendent Evolution! The Golden Digimentals, and the American version of Digimon: The Movie. The release will feature new English dubs with the original Japanese music and will also include the original versions with Japanese subtitles. The movie will retain its Americanized soundtrack, which features popular songs like “One Week” by the Barenaked Ladies and “The Rockafeller Skank” by Fatboy Slim. However, the Angela Anaconda short titled “Angelamon” will not be included in the release.
Discotek Media has also confirmed that the original English voice cast from the 1999 North American dub of Digimon will be returning for this release. The cast includes Joshua Seth as Taichi “Tai” Kamiya, Mona Marshall as Koushiro “Izzy” Izumi, Lara Jill Miller as Kari Kamiya, Michael Reisz as Yamato “Matt” Ishida, and Brian Donovan as Davis Motomiya. They have also added new English voice actors to the series, stating that they selected them based on energy and the ability to provide a voice and vibe that matches what fans heard almost 25 years ago.
The new English dub will be handled by Sound Cadence Studios, with Marissa Lenti writing and directing the dub, and MarcFBR overseeing production and script supervision.
While Digimon the Movie was released back in 2000, the franchise has continued to gain popularity over the years. The Digimon Adventure TV reboot from 2020 is available to stream on Crunchyroll, and the anime film series Digimon Adventure tri. is also available on the platform. In addition, the video game Digimon World: Next Order is set to be released in 2023 for PC and the Nintendo Switch.
