House of Lee, an upcoming anime series about the martial arts legend Bruce Lee, has released its first teaser. Directed by Emily Yang, the co-founder of Shibuya, the series is described as an action/fantasy show that follows Bruce Lee as he assembles his team of Dragon Warriors to prevent the world from descending into darkness and shadow. The series takes inspiration from one of Bruce Lee’s quotes about seeking light in darkness.
The project is created by Shannon Lee, Bruce Lee’s daughter, who is also a producer. Shannon expressed her excitement about the possibilities that anime offers in telling a creative story about her father. She chose to partner with Shibuya based on their previous work, including the animated short film White Rabbit. Shannon praised Shibuya’s creativity and work ethic, believing that they were the perfect collaborators for the project.
Emily Yang, the director, was drawn to the narrative of House of Lee due to its exploration of spirituality, battling inner demons, and the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) experience. She appreciated Shannon’s desire to retain creative control and ownership, which aligns with Shibuya’s mission to support creators in maintaining control over their work.
Shannon Lee is also an executive producer on the martial-arts crime drama series Warrior, which is based on her father’s writings and is currently airing its third season. She has previously acted in films and has participated in documentaries about her father, both as an interviewee and a producer.
House of Lee is set to release in 2024, and a full trailer will be released later this year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Bruce Lee’s film Enter the Dragon. Enter the Dragon will also be returning to theaters for its anniversary.
