A new Bleach cosplay featuring the character Kenpachi Zaraki has been gaining attention on Reddit. The black-and-white image showcases the cosplay by user _daniel_cos_, depicting the menacing Captain of the Gotei 13’s 11th Division. Kenpachi Zaraki is known for his battle-obsessed nature and iconic blade.
Bleach is a popular manga series created by Tite Kubo that was published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2001 to 2016. The story follows the protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki, a high schooler with the ability to see spirits. After encountering a wounded Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki, Ichigo gains extraordinary power and can fight against Hollows, corrupted entities that feed on souls.
The original anime adaptation of Bleach, produced by Pierrot, aired from 2004 to 2012. However, the final chapters of the manga were left unadapted until the release of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, which debuted in 2022. This new series portrays the deadly battle between the Soul Society and the Wandenreich, a secret Quincy empire. The second part of the series is currently airing as part of the summer 2023 anime season.
Thousand-Year Blood War not only covers the events of the arc from the manga but also introduces anime-only content. One example is the reveal of Captain Shinji Hirako’s forbidden Bankai, which was previously only mentioned in the franchise’s novelizations. There have also been changes to the production team, including the replacement of director Noriyuki Abe and the voice actor for Kenpachi Zaraki. The English dub controversy arose when Patrick Seitz replaced David Lodge as the voice actor, despite fan protests.
Additionally, Jamieson Price, who voiced Yasutora Sado (Chad) in the original Bleach anime, chose not to return for Thousand-Year Blood War. On Twitter, Price explained that he will no longer take roles for characters of color, emphasizing the importance of representation and access in the industry.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War can be streamed on Hulu in the United States.
