Fruits Basket Creator Unveils Exciting New Manga Series
This new manga is Takaya’s first non-Fruits Basket work since “Liselotte & Witch’s Forest,” which was published in 2011. “Liselotte & Witch’s Forest” is set in a fantasy world and follows a young woman named Liselotte as she starts a new life in a home surrounded by a mysterious forest inhabited by witches. The series went on hiatus in 2013.
Fruits Basket is Takaya’s most famous manga. It tells the story of high school student Tohru Honda, who decides to live in a tent in a forest after her mother dies in a car accident. The forest is the domain of the Sohma family, who are cursed to transform into the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Tohru is taken in by the family members and helps them heal from their emotional traumas. Takaya also published a sequel to Fruits Basket called “Fruits Basket Another.”
Fruits Basket has been adapted into multiple anime series. The first one was produced by Studio DEEN in 2001 and covers the first eight volumes of the manga. In 2019, a reboot of the anime was released, which covers the entire series. The final season of the reboot aired in 2021, and a prequel film called “Fruits Basket-Prelude” was released in February 2022.
“In Such a Small World” will be available on Manga Park starting Sept. 4. Fruits Basket manga is available in English through Yen Press.
