Netflix has recently announced the delay and rescheduling of six movies from its 2023 slate to 2024. The first movie that has been delayed is “Lift,” a heist thriller directed by F. Gary Gray and starring Kevin Hart. Originally slated for release on August 25, 2023, it has now been postponed to January 12, 2024. The film revolves around a master thief who is enticed by his ex-girlfriend and the FBI to pull off an impossible heist aboard a flying 777 from London to Zurich.
“Damsel,” a fantasy film starring Millie Bobby Brown and Angela Bassett, was also set to release in 2023 but has been pushed back to an unspecified date in 2024. The movie follows the story of a dutiful damsel who agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to discover that it was all a trap. She is recruited as a sacrifice and finds herself thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, testing her wits and will to survive.
“A Family Affair,” a romantic comedy movie featuring Zac Efron, Joey King, Nicole Kidman, Liza Koshy, and Kathy Bates, was originally scheduled for release on November 17, 2023. However, it has been delayed to 2024. The film centers around a young woman named Zara who works as an assistant for movie star Chris Cole. When Chris falls in love with Zara’s mother, their lives become entangled in a complex web of love and relationships.
“Players,” another movie that will be delayed until 2024, tells the story of a New York sportswriter named Mack, played by Gina Rodriguez. Mack has developed successful hook-up strategies with her best friend Adam, portrayed by Damon Wayans Jr., and their crew. However, when Mack unexpectedly falls in love with one of her targets, portrayed by Tom Ellis, they all have to learn the difference between casual encounters and pursuing lasting relationships.
“Shirley,” a biopic about Shirley Chisholm starring Regina King, has also been pushed back to an undisclosed date in 2024. The film will explore the life and achievements of Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman elected to the United States Congress and the first black major-party candidate for President of the United States.
Lastly, “Spaceman,” a science fiction drama featuring Adam Sandler as the Czech Republic’s first astronaut, has also been delayed to an unspecified date in 2024.
While Netflix has delayed these six movies, they have also announced new content coming in August 2023. One notable release is “Heart of Stone,” an action movie starring Gal Gadot, which will be available on the platform from August 11, 2023.
Overall, Netflix’s decision to delay these movies may disappoint some viewers, but it also presents an opportunity for the streaming giant to carefully curate and release a stronger lineup in 2024.
