Pokémon has released the first episode of its new animated series, titled Pokémon: Path to the Peak. The series focuses on the competitive world of the Pokémon Trading Card Game and follows a novice player named Ava as she discovers her talent for the game. The debut episode premiered at the 2023 Pokémon World Championships and is available to watch on the Official Pokémon YouTube Channel.
The story of Path to the Peak begins when Ava moves to a new town and stumbles upon her mother’s old Pokémon deck while unpacking. After a series of mishaps at her school’s club day, Ava catches the attention of Joshua, an experienced player of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, who invites her to join the school’s Pokémon club. Although Ava initially struggles and loses her first match, she gains a new perspective after choosing the grass-type Pokémon Oddish as her partner. Oddish comes alive in her imagination, and Ava goes on to defeat each member of the Pokémon club. However, she is taunted by Celestine, the school’s top player, who challenges her to compete in the Pokémon TCG Regional Championships.
In addition to Path to the Peak, Pokémon fans can look forward to another mini-series called Paldea Winds. Produced by WIT Studios (known for Attack on Titan), Paldea Winds follows a trio of trainers and their partner Pokémon, Fuecoco, Meowscarada, and Quaxly, as they embark on adventures. The series is set to premiere on YouTube on September 6.
The Pokémon World Championships, where the debut episode of Path to the Peak premiered, hosts competitions for various Pokémon games, including the Pokémon TCG, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon Unite. The event is taking place at the Pacifico Yokohama convention complex in Yokohama, Japan from August 11-13. To promote the World Championships, Pokémon released a stunning animated commercial produced by CoMIX Wave Films, the same studio behind the popular film Your Name directed by Makoto Shinkai.
New episodes of Pokémon: Path to the Peak will be released throughout the month of August, with the second episode scheduled for release on August 16. Pokémon fans have plenty to look forward to with these new animated series showcasing the competitive and adventurous aspects of the Pokémon universe.
