In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most superheroes are given their names, but two heroes have chosen their own superhero titles: Star-Lord and Spider-Man. Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt, came up with his superhero name as a joke in Guardians of the Galaxy, but it soon became his true identity. Other characters in the MCU now refer to him as Star-Lord. Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, chose his own superhero name in Captain America: Civil War, relating it to the origin of his abilities. He has fully embraced the title since then and can now operate as Spider-Man with a secret identity and protect the neighborhood anonymously.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most superheroes are given their names by circumstance, but Star-Lord and Spider-Man have managed to break the mold and choose their own superhero titles. While most superheroes in the MCU have secret identities, this is not the case for many of them as the MCU presents a world where superheroes are celebrities. However, Star-Lord and Spider-Man have taken it upon themselves to create their own superhero names.

Star-Lord, also known as Peter Quill, came up with his superhero name as a joke in Guardians of the Galaxy. Quill, played by Chris Pratt, was abducted from Earth as a child and wanted a recognizable codename for himself across the cosmos. His desire to be named Star-Lord was initially played as a joke, but it soon became his true identity. Other characters in the MCU, including Tony Stark, refer to Quill as Star-Lord. In future MCU projects, Quill may adopt the title Legendary Star-Lord.

Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, gave himself the name Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Initially, his mentor suggested names like “Spiderling” or “Spider-Boy”, but Parker chose Spider-Man in relation to the origin of his abilities. A bite from a radioactive spider gave Parker his powers. While this was played as a joke in the film since Parker was still a teenager, he has since fully embraced the name Spider-Man. He has made difficult decisions and grown up considerably in subsequent films, such as Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home. He can now operate as Spider-Man with a secret identity, protecting the neighborhood anonymously.

Overall, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has introduced numerous superheroes, each with their own names. However, Star-Lord and Spider-Man have stood out by choosing their own superhero titles and fully embracing them. Their stories continue to unfold in future MCU projects.
