Sony Pictures has released a new video for the upcoming film The Equalizer 3, which is set to be the final installment in Denzel Washington’s action thriller franchise. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on September 1st.
The video, which serves as a featurette, gives viewers a recap of the violent journey for justice that Washington’s character, Robert McCall, has gone on in the previous two films. Director Antoine Fuqua and Washington himself discuss McCall’s revenge arcs in the first two movies and tease a much more brutal version of the character in the third film. In The Equalizer 3, McCall will take on the Italian mafia.
The official synopsis for the film reveals that since retiring as a government assassin, McCall has struggled to come to terms with the horrific things he has done in the past. He finds solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed and has found himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy. However, he soon discovers that his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows that he must become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.
The Equalizer 3 is being directed by Antoine Fuqua, who also directed the first two films in the franchise. The screenplay is written by Richard Wenk. In addition to Washington, the film also stars Dakota Fanning, David Denman, and Gaia Scodellaro. This will be Fanning’s second collaboration with Washington, as they previously worked together in the film Man on Fire.
The film is produced by Fuqua, Washington, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Clayton Townsend, Alex Siskin, Tony Eldridge, and Michael Sloan. It is executive produced by David Bloomfield, Tarak Ben Ammar, and Andy Mitchell.
The Equalizer films are based on the classic CBS series that aired for four seasons from 1985-1989. Denzel Washington has been the lead in the film adaptations, with Bill Pullman, Melissa Leo, David Harbour, and Pedro Pascal also appearing in the first two movies. The franchise has so far grossed over $190 million worldwide.
Fans of the action thriller franchise can look forward to the final installment, The Equalizer 3, arriving in theaters this September. The video released by Sony Pictures provides a glimpse into the violent journey for justice that awaits Robert McCall as he takes on the Italian mafia in Southern Italy. With a talented cast and the return of director Antoine Fuqua, the film promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the franchise.
