The popular post-apocalyptic anime series Rust-Eater Bisco, also known as Sabikui Bisco, is returning for a second season. The announcement came from the official Twitter account of the series, although not many details about the new season are known at this time. Animation studio OZ released the first teaser image, featuring the Mushroom Keeper and Milo Nekoyanagi readying their bows.

Rust-Eater Bisco is based on Shinji Cobkubo’s ongoing light novel series, which began in March 2018. The story takes place in an alternate version of Japan that has been ravaged by a deadly rust-spreading wind. The protagonist, Bisco Akaboshi, travels the country with his giant crab companion Akutagawa and doctor friend Milo, using unique arrows to grow mushrooms that fight against the rust. The light novel series has sold over 300,000 copies worldwide and currently consists of eight volumes.

The anime adaptation of Rust-Eater Bisco premiered as part of the winter lineup in 2022. Directed by Atsushi Ikariya and written by Sadayuki Murai, the first season starred Ryōta Suzuki as Bisco and Natsuki Hanae as Milo. The final episode of the first season wrapped up the climactic battle against Kurokawa and the Tetsujin and revealed that a major character previously thought to be dead was actually alive. The episode ended with a hint towards the next adventure for the characters.

While an official premiere date for the second season has not been announced, fans can revisit the first season by streaming it on Crunchyroll. For those interested in the source material, Cobkubo’s light novels are distributed in North America by Yen Press.
