A Fullmetal Alchemist fan has showcased their impressive cosplay skills by perfectly recreating one of the homunculus Envy’s transformative powers. The Envy cosplay, posted on Reddit by Purple Toast, captures the moment when the antagonist transitions from impersonating Maria Ross to his natural form. Envy dons the Second Lieutenant’s form as a disguise to assassinate Maes Hughes, who had become a threat to Father’s plan.
Envy’s siblings, particularly fan-favorite Lust, have also inspired some remarkable costume-making. Dhalia Cosplay recently shared their accurate version of Lust, complete with the character’s signature tight black dress, curly hair, and red ouroboros tattoo. Another fan showcased their Lust cosplay featuring her Ultimate Spear.
However, it’s not just the villains from Fullmetal Alchemist that have sparked the creativity of fans. One rising cosplayer named lizzie!! shared their portrayal of Winry Rockbell, the skilled automail engineer for Edward Elric. The costume accurately recreates Winry’s work clothes, including her strapless black top, tan jumpsuit, and green bandanna.
Fullmetal Alchemist is a manga created by Hiromu Arakawa and was serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shōnen Gangan from July 2001 to June 2010. Set in a steampunk-esque world governed by the laws of alchemy, the story follows the Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, as they search for the Philosopher’s Stone to restore their damaged bodies after a failed attempt to resurrect their mother using alchemy. Envy and Lust are just two of the many villains and obstacles the brothers encounter.
With over 80 million copies in circulation worldwide, Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the best-selling manga series of all time, alongside works like YuYu Hakusho and Fairy Tail. The manga received numerous awards during its initial run, including the shōnen category at the Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2004 and the Seiun Award for best science fiction comic in 2011.
The Fullmetal Alchemist manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media, and both of Studio Bones’ anime adaptations, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
