Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo has unveiled its new Chainsaw Man collection, featuring T-shirts and sweaters with designs by artist Kosuke Kawamura. The apparel line showcases popular characters from the Chainsaw Man manga series, including Pochita, Power, and Makima, as well as the protagonist Denji. The collection will be available in stores starting August 4, with T-shirts priced at 1,990 yen (approximately US$14) and sweaters priced at 2,990 yen (approximately US$21). Uniqlo released a trailer on Twitter to promote the collection, which showcases Denji slashing the company’s logo.
Chainsaw Man, written by Tatsuki Fujimoto, first premiered in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump in December 2018. It was later moved to the Shōnen Jump+ platform in 2020, where it continues to be serialized. The story revolves around Denji, a young man burdened by his father’s debts. After being betrayed by his employers, Denji gains the power to transform parts of his body into chainsaws and is recruited by the Public Safety Division, a government agency.
Chainsaw Man has enjoyed significant success, becoming one of the best-selling manga series of all time. It has won multiple awards, including Best Shōnen Manga at the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award and Best Manga at the Harvey Awards in both 2021 and 2022. The series has resonated with readers worldwide, cementing Fujimoto’s reputation as a prominent mangaka.
In October 2022, MAPPA, the studio known for its adaptations of Jujutsu Kaisen and Hell’s Paradise, released the first season of the Chainsaw Man anime. Despite lower-than-expected Blu-ray sales, reports suggest that the studio is considering producing another season and a tie-in movie. The anime features Kikunosuke Toya as Denji, Fairouz Ai as Power, and Tomori Kusunoki as Makima.
VIZ Media holds the distribution rights for Chainsaw Man in North America, while the anime is available on Crunchyroll.
Overall, Uniqlo’s Chainsaw Man collection offers fans the chance to express their appreciation for the popular manga series through stylish and affordable clothing items. With the release of the anime and the brand collaboration, Chainsaw Man continues to solidify its position as a major franchise in the manga and anime industry.
