The plot of Kaiju No. 8 is set in a world where monsters called Kaiju terrorize Japan’s population. The Defense Force, an elite unit, is created to combat these creatures, while a cleanup crew takes care of the aftermath. Kafka Hibino, a member of the cleanup crew, dreams of joining the Defense Force but has failed multiple times. When a small Kaiju enters his body and gives him the ability to transform into a half-Kaiju, Kafka gets another chance to fulfill his dream.
The anime project will be a collaboration between Production I.G and Studio Khara, with Naoya Matsumoto supervising the project. The voice actors for the main characters have been announced, with Masaya Fukunishi voicing Kafka Hibino, Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro, and Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa.
