The manga has gained significant popularity, with over 11 million copies in circulation and being one of Shonen Jump’s most successful titles. Due to its success, it was expected that the manga would receive an anime adaptation, and it has been confirmed for a Spring 2024 release.

The anime project for Kaiju No. 8 was officially confirmed on August 4, 2022, by the author himself. A key visual and announcement video were released by TOHO Animation. On December 19, 2022, a release date for the anime was announced, along with a hype teaser that gave fans a glimpse of the main character Kafka’s Kaiju form and other monsters. Production I.G, known for their work on popular series like Haikyuu!! and Attack on Titan, will handle the animation, while Studio Khara will be in charge of character design.
The second trailer for Kaiju No. 8 was released on August 5, 2023, and received positive feedback from fans. It showcased improved visuals, impeccable sound design, and ferocious Kaiju monsters. The trailer also revealed the voice actors for three of the characters.
Crunchyroll announced on October 13, 2023, that they had acquired the exclusive streaming rights for Kaiju No. 8. The anime is set to premiere in April 2024, with the exact date yet to be announced. The plot of Kaiju No. 8 is set in a world where monsters called Kaiju terrorize Japan’s population. The Defense Force, an elite unit, is created to combat these creatures, while a cleanup crew takes care of the aftermath. Kafka Hibino, a member of the cleanup crew, dreams of joining the Defense Force but has failed multiple times. When a small Kaiju enters his body and gives him the ability to transform into a half-Kaiju, Kafka gets another chance to fulfill his dream.
The anime project will be a collaboration between Production I.G and Studio Khara, with Naoya Matsumoto supervising the project. The voice actors for the main characters have been announced, with Masaya Fukunishi voicing Kafka Hibino, Asami Seto as Mina Ashiro, and Wataru Kato as Reno Ichikawa.
